Andrea Barzagli brings style and experience to the heart of the Bianconeri rearguard. The central defender, who moved to Turin in January 2011, was a crucial part of a record-setting backline for clean sheets (81) in Europe’s top five divisions between 2011/12 and 2014/15. The defender’s no-nonsense approach and elegant style has won the Italy international plenty of admirers in Turin.
Making his Serie A debut for Chievo in August 2003, Andrea’s impressive displays saw him win a regular spot in the starting line-up, making a total of 29 appearances and finding the back of the net on three occasions.
Barzagli was then snapped up by Palermo, where his natural leadership qualities saw him handed the captain’s armband. International recognition was not far away, with the defender gaining his first Azzurri cap against Finland on 17 November 2004.
His consistently solid displays in the ten following years for his club and country, including a World Cup winner’s medal in 2006 and appearances at major tournaments in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014, have secured Andrea’s place at both domestic and international level.
