Born in Varese in 1957, Giuseppe Marotta has been part of the senior management at professional football clubs for about 40 years. His career began in 1978 in Varese, and in 1986 Marotta became a corporate executive of Monza, before later being appointed General Manager at Como and then at Ravenna. After which, he spent five years at Venezia which was crowned by the achievement of promotion to Serie A after 31 years of waiting.
From August 2000 to May 2002, Marotta was a General Manager of Atalanta, before going on to hold the same position at U.C. Sampdoria in May 2002, whilst also becoming part of the board of directors. His first season was characterised by the reorganisation of the football club that culminated in him being part of another promotion to Serie A. From February 2004 Marotta also added the position of Managing Director.
Since June 2010 he has been the General Director of the Sports Area of Juventus Football Club.
On 27 October 2010, he joined the board of directors of the company and was simultaneously appointed Chief Executive Officer.
In 2014, he was inducted into the Italian Football Hall of Fame in the Italian executive category.
He currently holds the position of Vice President of the Technical Sector of the FIGC and President of ADISE, Associazione dei Diritti Sportivi. From May 2018, he was appointed a Federal Councillor of Lega Serie A.
