16 January 1985, Turin, Juventus 2-0 Liverpool.
Following their Cup Winners’ Cup triumph against Porto in Basel, Juventus earned a shot at claiming their first ever UEFA Super Cup title by playing against reigning European champions Liverpool, who had enjoyed a victorious European Cup campaign which culminated in a historic success over Roma on their home patch in the tournament final.
The Super Cup used to be contested over two legs but, due to fixture congestion, Liverpool could only accommodate a single match against the Bianconeri in Turin, where the game almost failed to take place due to a large amount of lying snow on the pitch. However, with the help of hundreds of volunteers at the Stadio Comunale, the playing surface was cleared and the game went ahead as planned.
Giovanni Trapattoni’s men took a richly deserved lead just before the half-time interval through Boniek and then all but sealed an elusive first ever Super Cup trophy when the Polish midfielder doubled his personal tally 12 minutes before the final whistle.
