Andrea Barzagli expressed his delight at Juventus putting further daylight between themselves and Roma with this afternoon’s 1-0 victory over Fiorentina – but insists there is still a long way to go before Scudetto honours are assigned.
The 31-year-old, speaking to reporters at Juventus Stadium, began: “We’ve got an excellent lead over Roma in the table, but the league campaign isn’t over yet.”
Barzagli’s return to the Bianconeri rearguard has coincided with a run of three Serie A games without conceding, a factor he considers important in breeding confidence for further challenges that lie on the horizon.
“It’s important to keep a clean sheet in these games. During a certain period it appeared that every opposition shot ended up as a goal. Even with a bit of luck on our side, it’s good that we’re not conceding. The most crucial thing is the team’s attitude.”
One of these impending fixtures sees Fiorentina make a swift return to Juventus Stadium for Thursday night’s Europa League last 16 first leg, with Barzagli predicting a change in rhythm when the teams resume hostilities in midweek.
He added: “We’ll witness a different pace on Thursday. The manager will make his assessments, we’ll need fresh legs for the game.”
