Juventus’ Europa League opponents pick up an away victory as they were predicted to on paper, but will have to wait to be certain of lifting the domestic title after challengers Sporting also win

Juventus’ Europa League semi-final rivals Benfica have emerged from their domestic away trip to face Arouca with a 2-0 win this evening.

Lifting Jorge Jesus’ men to their 22nd victory from 27 games played so far this season were Rodrigo and Nicolas Gaitan, ensuring the Eagles recorded the success the 42 points separating the two teams meant they had looked likely to.

With just three fixtures left, Benfica are still firmly out on top in the Primeira Liga table with a seven-point advantage over Lisbon rivals Sporting, but the latter’s simultaneous victory over Gil Vicente means Juve’s opponents will have to wait to mathematically secure the title.
