Rafa Benitez acknowledges that on Sunday night Napoli face the team he believes are favourites to lift the Serie A title, but maintains that his Partenopei side have every chance of getting a result against the Bianconeri if they put in a good performance at Juventus Stadium.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s much-anticipated clash, the Spaniard said: “Juve have the strongest squad in the league - something that Conte himself knows because he’s an intelligent manager - and for me they are the favourites for the Scudetto. Obviously Roma also have title ambitions, but Juve are best equipped to go on and win it.”
But the 53-year-old boss has experience of against-the-odds wins on big occasions - his Liverpool side turned around a three-goal deficit against Milan in the 2004/05 Champions League final to lift the trophy - and is confident that his new employers can cause an upset against the reigning champions of Italy.
“We can beat anyone on our day. Both sides will need to give it their all, and will have to play with character, their heads and their hearts.”
With Juve and Napoli deadlocked on 28 points in the Serie A table, three points in tomorrow’s direct fixture could be a great step forward in the course of the Scudetto race, but Benitez concluded by saying that the eventual outcome won’t be decided just yet.
“There are 26 games left, that’s the key thing to bear in mind. Of course whoever wins tomorrow will have more confidence, but either way both Napoli and Juve know that the road ahead is long.”
