Gigi Buffon has declared that it’s star quality which decides matches as competitive and delicately poised as tonight’s derby, hailing Carlos Tevez’s stunning winner at Juventus Stadium.
The Juve captain was full of praise for the Argentine hitman, who netted his 14th league goal of the season to sink the Granata and take himself to joint-first in the Serie A goalscoring charts.
Speaking after the whistle blew on Juventus’ 1-0 triumph, Buffon said: “It was the strike of a real champion. We have a fair few of them, and today Carlos made the difference.”
After enjoying a light day at the office in September’s meeting between Torino and Juventus – the goalkeeper was not troubled by a single shot on target at the Stadio Olimpico – he was put under more pressure this time around by a Granata strikeforce in good form, but was up to every challenge he was presented with.
“It was definitely one of the few games in which they’ve played without the shackles on because they’re enjoying such a strong season.
“It was a true derby in every sense of the word. Credit to Toro who pushed us all the way. But we wanted it too much.”
