Gigi Buffon could do little about the two goals netted by Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in Los Blancos’ favour this evening, but he did foil a number of other Real efforts on goal and was a cornerstone of the crucial point the Bianconeri take from Juventus Stadium.
Antonio Conte’s men have kept their chances of qualification alive tonight, but Buffon believes that a greater points-return from previous fixtures could have made their passage to the knockout phases easier.
Speaking after the final whistle, the 35-year-old goalkeeper said: “Our Champions League results are in line with those we managed last year, we’ve lost more important points than today.
“We were up against a Real side who are impressive because of the quality of their players, you have to be attentive every time they cross the halfway line because they could always find a way through to goal.”
But Buffon believes the hosts more than held their own in front of their home crowd: “Juve put in a seven out of ten performance tonight and Casillas had to make at least three decisive saves.”
The Bianconeri captain concluded by analyising the next Champions League challenge: “FC Copenhagen’s victory today shows they’re not just here to make up the numbers, and we’ll have to beat them in the next encounter, knowing that Galatasaray will give it their all in Madrid.”
