With yet another clean sheet - his 11th of the campaign - Gigi Buffon led by example from the back once again tonight in the demolition of Roma that ended their 17-game unbeaten start to the season in ruthless fashion.
The Bianconeri captain pulled off some smart stops in the run up to half-time as Roma searched for an equaliser, but the Juve fans would expect nothing less from the man who has played a crucial part in the run of 10 consecutive league wins, a feat not achieved since 1932.
Speaking after the final whistle, the 35-year-old began: “It was an important victory tonight against a Roma side that impressed me for an hour. They gave as good as they got until the sendings off and we were better at making the most of the opportunities that came our way.”
Antonio Conte’s men are now eight points clear at the top of the table, a position that Buffon believes their performances have fully merited.
“We deserve to be here at this point of the season and have shown we’re able to respond positively to defeats both this season against Fiorentina and last year against Inter.”
