Giorgio Chiellini has spoken of his disappointment at missing out on one the Bianconeri’s aims for the season after Benfica managed to hold on to their lead to reach the Europa League final at Juve’s expense this evening.
Speaking to the media after the final whistle blew on a game in which Juventus put in a total of 19 shots but didn’t seem to have fortune on their side, Chiellini began: “It’s disappointing because we deserved to reach the final out there.
“It’s hard to take because the result doesn’t reflect our performance. We were missing a slice of luck in both legs.”
The 29-year-old defender concluded by hailing the valiant fighting spirit of his team-mates against their Portuguese rivals both in Lisbon and on home soil.
“I think we played two great games in this tie but we were punished by individual moments. The final was one of our aims, so it’s a shame to miss out.”
