Following tonight’s final whistle at Juventus Stadium, Antonio Conte expressed his belief that the Bianconeri deserved a lot better over the course of the two legs against Benfica.
Despite producing two positive performances in Lisbon and Turin, Juventus bowed out of the competition after the Eagles protected the slender lead they achieved in last weeks’ first meeting at the Estadio da Luz.
Speaking to the media after the game, Conte said: “Benfica are certainly a very experienced side and also showed that tonight by doing everything possible to hold play up. You only need to look at the fact that the ball was in play for 40 minutes, when the average is 60 to 65. They’re the ones who go through to the final, but only with two shots on goal in two games.”
“Every single detail has an impact in these fixtures, and none went in our favour. We bow out with our heads held high and I think we were the ones who deserved to go through. I would like to thank our fans for the support they gave us and now we’ll think about Atalanta and winning our third consecutive Scudetto.”
