The Primavera are held to a 2-2 draw by FC Copenhagen in Ivrea, but qualification for the knockout stages of the Under 19 Champions League competition is still not mathematically out of the question

After the 2-2 draw with FC Copenhagen away in Denmark, the Primavera have recorded the same scoreline against them again at home this afternoon, a result that means qualification for the knockout stages of the UEFA Youth League will be a very tough, though still not impossible, ask.

If a goal conceded at the death was a cause for bitterness in the away fixture, this time it could have been a different story had Bnou Marzouk not missed a late penalty that would surely have secured victory.

As it stands, though, goals from Alhassane Soumah and Matteo Gerbaudo mean Andrea Zanchetta’s side still have a chance of making it through to the next round of the Under 19 Champions League competition provided they beat Galatasaray in Istanbul and the Danes are defeated against Real Madrid.

Zanchetta opted for an offensive 4-4-2 formation in Ivrea, and, just as they did against Real Madrid in their last outing, it was the Bianconeri who had the early chances.  Shots from Marzouk and Soumah ended up cleared off the line as FC Copenhagen goalkeeper Aris Vaporakis came under fire.

Soumah went close again soon afterwards when he almost managed to take advantage of a Vaporakis error, but then the Danes began to step up their game and went on to find an opener through Mads Nordam.

It took only four minutes for Juve to find a response, though, as a Soumah shot on the turn headed in off the bar, and it was only the woodwork that prevented Gerbaudo from making it two.

After half time, it was again the visitors who took the lead courtesy of a Yones Felfel header from the centre of the box.

At this stage, elimination from the competition was on the cards for Zanchetta’s youngsters, so the manager began to ring the changes to give his side a more offensive edge.

Things were tense, but suddenly Gerbaudo, the captain for the occasion given Pol Garcia Tena’s suspension, found the all-important equaliser that kept the Primavera’s dreams alive.

The Bianconeri could smell glory and threw men forward in search of a winner, but hopes of a famous finish were dashed when Marzouk missed from the spot in a golden chance to snatch three points late on.
