John Elkann believes the Bianconeri are fully deserved of their regained place amongst Europe’s elite after amassing two back-to-back Scudetto titles and reaching the Champions League quarter-finals last season.
And the FIAT chairman, speaking during this afternoon’s traditional pre-season workout against the Primavera at Villar Perosa, says Antonio Conte’s men must continue to maintain their high standards on both domestic and European fronts.
He began: “Juventus are a top European club. The team has improved and approaches the season following an extraordinary year both in Italy and the Champions League. This represents an excellent starting point. The lads will need to do well as always and will give it their best shot, knowing that winning a third consecutive Scudetto would be a feat whilst also nurturing the European dream.”
A traditional appointment in the club’s fixture list began with a poignant nod to tradition as Bianconeri legend Michel Platini met the first team squad at Villa Agnelli before paying his respects to Gianni Agnelli.
Elkann concluded: “It was nice for Platini to come and enjoy a private visit, he wanted to greet the team and remember my grandfather on the tenth anniversary of his death, along with my uncle Umberto. He has been an integral part of Juventus and he was pleased to see that tradition is upheld. We spoke about football, Juventus and his memories of my grandfather and uncle.”
