A Kwadwo Asamoah-inspired revival is undone by Cristiano Ronaldo’s late winner as Portugal emerge 2-1 winners in Brasilia.

An inspired Kwadwo Asamoah display ultimately proved in vain as Ghana were beaten 2-1 by Portugal in this evening’s final Group G encounter at Estádio Nacional de Brasilia.

The midfielder provided a sumptuous assist for Asamoah Gyan to cancel out John Boye’s own goal, taking the Black Stars a solitary strike away from qualifying for the competition’s knockout stages.

Asamoah’s second World Cup assist gave Ghana hope of finding the goal they would need to climb above USA into the second qualifying spot, only to see their revival undone by Cristiano Ronaldo’s winner 10 minutes from time.

The result sees both Ghana and Portugal exit the tournament, with USA maintaining their grip on second place to set up a last 16 meeting with either Belgium or Algeria.
