After finishing their pre-season training camp in Val d’Aosta’s Saint-Vincent, the Giovanissimi Nazionali’s will continue their preparations in Birmingham, England, host city of the prestigious Premier League Under 15 tournament that the side have been involved in since yesterday.
Twelve of the world’s most prominent youth teams are joining the Bianconeri in the competition, with Spartak Moscow, Arsenal and Swansea as their group opponents.
The youngsters drew 1-1 against both the Russians and the Gunners, two fixtures that were extremely useful tests for the developing talents. Tomorrow, Tuesday 20 August, they will face Swansea.
The games that will decide the title winners are on Wednesday and Thursday, but Claudio Gabetta has spoken positively about how the experience will have benefited his team even if they don’t reach that latter stage.
He pointed out: “We’re taking part in a tournament that is held in very high regard, with competitive opponents, and playing these international ties gives the players a chance to gain further experience.
“As far as the football they’ve played is concerned, I’m very satisfied. The team have performed at a high level, which has made me excited for the campaign that’s just about to start.”
On returning home to Italy, the Giovanissimi Nazionali have another two prestigious tournaments in their diary - the “Ale&Ricky always in our hearts” and Gaetano Scirea competitions – before their league season kicks off on Sunday 15 September.
