Sebastian Giovinco has expressed his satisfaction at bouncing back from away defeat in Naples at the first time of asking with last night’s 1-0 triumph over Lyon.
It was a resilient, determined performance from Antonio Conte’s men in their Europa League quarter-final first leg, and Giovinco said it was a great feeling knowing afterwards that the effort of pushing for a valuable win had paid off.
Speaking to Sky Italia, the 27-year-old began: “After a defeat, getting back to winning ways straight away with an important performance in Europe is always nice, and it’s good for the team. It was a great feeling yesterday.”
The Bianconeri number 12 was one of the best players on the field after coming on as a 62nd-minute substitute, putting in cross after cross amidst impressive darts past opposition players at the Stade de Gerland.
And he subsequently received warm words from Antonio Conte, who hailed this particular performance as well as Giovinco’s general ability to make an impact for a side like Juventus.
“It’s always nice for a player to hear that, it means I’ve done well when I’ve played. I have a few criticisms of my own performance, but if the boss has high opinions of it then there must be a reason.”
Thanks to Leonardo Bonucci, Juve have a precious away goal ahead of hosting Lyon for the return leg next Thursday 10 April, but Giovinco maintains that there is still work to do.
“We’ve established a good platform to go on and seal a semi-final spot, but nothing’s certain yet.”
Nor is Juventus’ standing at the top of Serie A completely safe, with chasers Roma reducing the gap to just eight points after victory over Parma on Wednesday, but Giovinco concluded by underlining the team’s desire to get the job done.
“It’s still all in our hands, and we’ll try to win the Scudetto as soon as possible.”
