Edgar Davids is celebrating his 41st birthday today.
Though instantly recognisable by his dreadlocked hair and goggles, it was the exceptional determination of the former Juve player’s performances that really caught the attention of fans and earned the Dutchman the nickname ‘Pitbull’.
A relentless ball-winner as well as creative force in the Bianconeri midfield, he drove the side on to three Scudetto titles, two Super Cups and the 1999 Intertoto Cup during a seven year spell in the black and white stripes starting in 1997.
He was famous for seemingly being in multiple places at once when marshalling the centre of the field, and now he has recently covered equally wide ground in his new role as Bianconeri ambassador abroad.
Davids flew the Bianconeri flag Down Under at the official launch for 10 August’s exhibition match with the FOXTEL A-League All Stars to be played in Sydney, and also helped to expand the club’s horizons in the Far East last week at the launch of Tokyo’s JLounge.
And on the day he turns 41, all associated with Juventus Football Club wish Edgar many happy returns.
