When you consider that in the last year alone, Gigi Buffon lifted his eighth Serie A title, a fifth Italian Super Cup and the club’s tenth Coppa Italia, it’s clear that Juve’s legendary goalkeeper boasts a winning mentality which mirrors that of the club he so proudly captains.
Add to that the feats of completing 20 years since making his professional debut, surpassing Gaetano Scirea as the second-most capped player in Bianconeri history and claiming his 250th league victory with the Old Lady 11 days ago against Udinese, one realises just what an integral role Buffon has played within the fabric of Juventus ever since joining from Parma as a 23-year-old.
Behind the many milestones and records is a man, a leader, who has been prepared to push himself on to achieve ever greater goals, but also inspire others to do the same over the course of an extraordinary 15-year career at the club.
It is, therefore, typical of Buffon that he spends his 38th birthday immediately turning his attentions to helping Juventus continue their fine run of form when they come up against Chievo next Sunday.
