The Bianconeri tough it out in a soaked morning in the Val d’Aosta hills, putting in a hard morning’s work at the Stadio Brunod

Rain was pouring at the Stadio Brunod but it didn’t stop the Bianconeri from carrying out their morning workout with the usual good spirits, and nor did it prevent the determined crowd from taking their place in the stands.

The whole squad was out to build on their resounding 7-0 win against Aygreville yesterday evening, and they began with a passing exercise around posts in the turf that increased gradually in speed.

Running up and down beside them, Simone Pepe and Luca Marrone continued to persevere with their separate fitness programme in order to be fully ready to participate in the new season.

Next was the ever-present piggy in the middle exercise, but today there was an extra incentive to keep the ball and win the game: those who failed to snatch possession had to get onto the wet ground and do press-ups.

And then the running began.  Five staggered groups did multiple laps of the field, before repeated sprints down the length of it and many more repetitions to follow.

As the session came to a close, Arturo Vidal made his trademark heart hand-sign to thank the incredible  fans for turning out on a day like this. The ball is expected to make a welcome return when the Bianconeri resume their preparations at 5pm (CET).
