On 18 May 2014, Juventus will lift the Scudetto trophy at home to Cagliari, and it has almost become a tradition over the last 20 years.
The recurring theme began in 1995, the year the Bianconeri sealed their first league title under Marcello Lippi.
It had already been mathematically sealed two weeks previously against Parma, but Juve were keen to celebrate in style and that’s exactly what they did with a 3-1 victory over the visitors in which every one of the forward three – Alessandro Del Piero, Gianluca Vialli and Fabrizio Ravanelli – were on the scoresheet.
In 2005, Juventus lifted the trophy at the culmination of a great game which finished 4-2 in their favour.
Del Piero, Stephan Appiah and a David Trezeguet brace lifted Fabio Capello’s men to victory, but the Delle Alpi’s applause also went to Azzurri hero Gianfranco Zola on the day he signed off on a magnificent career with two goals for Cagliari.
We end with last year’s Juventus v Cagliari fixture, which finished 1-1 thanks to Mirko Vucinic’s reply to a wondergoal from Victor Ibarbo. It was the penultimate match of the 2012/13 campaign, and at the end of the 90 minutes it was time for captain Gigi Buffon to do the honours of lifting Scudetto number 31!
