Paul Pogba was the hero at the Stadio Olimpico on 29 September, taking the Bianconeri’s run of consecutive wins over their Derby Della Mole rivals to five

In a tight affair just across Turin at the Stadio Olimpico, it was a Paul Pogba header that unlocked the most recent Derby Della Mole on 29 September and ensured the Bianconeri recorded their fifth consecutive win against their city rivals.

The visitors made the better start, heaping early pressure on the startled Granata and pinning them back in their own half.

Pogba produced the first save, a rasping shot from distance claimed by Daniele Padelli low to his right, and Alessio Cerci gave Gigi Buffon a scare soon afterwards with a free-kick that curled just wide. Bianconeri shots kept on flying in from range but to no avail, and before long it was half-time.

But it wasn’t long until Conte’s men found the breakthrough, just nine minutes after the start of the second half in fact. It all happened in an instant: Andrea Pirlo sent in a corner, Leonardo Bonucci headed it quickly towards goal, Carlos Tevez nodded it up on to the bar and then Pogba arrived, ducking to head home his first away goal in the black and white stripes.

From there on in, the Bianconeri were relatively untroubled on their way to extending a run without conceding in the league against Torino that now stretches back 11 years.

It was a closely-fought battle, as Juve’s narrow 50.7 per cent advantage in the possession statistics show, but Torino will have to wait until next year for a shot at ending what will then be a 19 year wait for a derby win in front of their home fans.

Speaking after the final whistle, the goalscorer had his say on the importance of the triumph.

Conte then went on to explain what he thought made the tactical difference, revealing one move in particular that turned out to prove key.
