Juventus’ upcoming Europa League opponents record a disappointing derby defeat at the Stade de Gerland against the team one place above them in the Ligue 1 table

Juventus’ Europa League quarter-final opponents Lyon have suffered a slight dent to their ambitions of securing a European spot for next season with a 2-1 defeat to Saint-Etienne in this evening’s Rhone Valley derby.

Knowing that a win in their last game before hosting the Bianconeri on Thursday could have pulled them level with the fourth-placed visitors, Remi Garde’s men will no doubt be disappointed that the defeat instead now means they are six points behind in fifth.

Alexandre Lacazette crowned a brilliant move sparked by good work from strike partner Bafetimbi Gomis to pull Lyon level after Mevlut Erding’s opener, but Max-Alain Gradel finished the hosts off in the 74th minute.

Their next appointment at the Stade de Gerland is Juventus’ visit for the 21.05 CET quarter-final first leg kick-off on Thursday.
