The midfielder says he and his team-mates can take heart from tonight's performance and is already looking forward to welcoming Real to Turin: "The return match at Juventus Stadium will be decisive”

Starting in a more advanced position than usual, Claudio Marchisio settled into his new role with consummate ease against Real Madrid and almost drew first blood with the first chance of the game.

Unfortunately it wasn't to be, as the Italy man saw his early effort turned away by Iker Casillas before Cristiano Ronaldo dashed his hopes of returning to Italy with a positive result.

Speaking after the final whistle, the Turin-born midfielder was already looking forward to the next appointment with Los Blancos.

"The return match against Real at Juventus Stadium will be decisive. It was really hard out there in the second half today. Playing a man light after Chiellini was unfairly sent off, and against the quality of this Real side, we had our work cut out.

"But despite that we still managed to do very well. We responded after they got themselves in front and asked questions of them up front."

Marchisio concluded: "It's a tough path ahead now but we can take heart from our performance tonight."
