Claudio Marchisio has praised the way Juventus bounced back from midweek defeat against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico with a performance of great character if not one that sealed all three points in this evening’s 1-1 draw with Lazio.
Speaking after the final whistle, the 28-year-old midfielder began: “It’s a shame, we wanted to win here in Rome, especially after the defeat in the Coppa Italia. But given the nature of the game, it went well: we showed real character and desire to get a result, fighting hard for it.”
The Bianconeri dominated the first half in terms of possession and number of chances created, but the side captained by Marchisio after Gigi Buffon’s dismissal nonetheless found themselves behind going into the break following Antonio Candreva’s penalty.
“We always come up against teams who set themselves up well at the back, they defended very deep. Our rhythm was slow early on - we weren’t playing like we usually do - but after going down to 10 men our character began to shine through.
“That second half was a sign for us, a sign that we’ve got the desire to always get a result.”
