Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella believes the current Juventus side embodies manager Antonio Conte’s personality to perfection.
After Conte used his pre-match press conference to speak in glowing terms about the job done by his opposite number, Montella repaid the favour by hailing the back-to-back Scudetto winning tactician when addressing the media in Florence.
The 39-year-old began: “Juventus are a great team. Everything they do comes from Antonio Conte, his influence on the side is clear for all to see. We’ll try and restrict them, but to stop them would involve us producing a flawless display.”
The Viola’s strong start to the season has hit the buffers in recent weeks, with defeat to Inter immediately followed by successive draws against Parma and Lazio.
Yet Montella claims there is no cause to push the panic button at the Artemio Franchi, insisting his men will approach the visit of Juventus in the right frame of mind.
Reflecting on his side’s last outing in the capital, he said: “We didn’t produce our best showing at the Olimpico, but we’re in good shape both psychologically and physically and therefore I have no worries ahead of tomorrow’s game.”
The meeting of the two teams is always a highly-anticipated occasion in Florence and Montella confesses he has frequently been reminded of the encounter’s importance over the course of the build-up.
“I’ve been told that we need to win this one. It will be an important game for the city of Florence and our fans, who have always behaved in a civil manner and will do so again tomorrow. The banter’s all part of the game.”
