Juventus held the Italian Super Cup aloft in Beijing on this day last year after beating Napoli in extra-time

A year ago today on 11 August 2012, Juventus’ trophy cabinet welcomed a new addition after Antonio Conte’s side won 4-2 against Napoli in extra-time to lift the Italian Super Cup.

It was an absorbing encounter, as all of the recent games with Napoli have been, in which the Bianconeri were forced to come back twice from a losing margin to keep their dream of winning alive.

Goals from Kwadwo Asamoah (on his official debut) and Arturo Vidal took the game to extra time, and in the end it was a Mirko Vucinic finish and an own-goal from Christian Maggio that allowed captain Gigi Buffon to get his hands on the trophy, the fifth in the club’s history.

Now Conte’s men will be looking to repeat the feat they achieved on that day in 2012 when they take on Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome in exactly a week’s time.
