On the night he scored his second masterpiece in as many games to lift Juventus to victory against Fiorentina, Andrea Pirlo has stated that the Bianconeri always knew they could pull off the win they were after at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
The midfield maestro got the goal the team’s tenacious performance deserved when he stepped up to blast a free-kick into the top corner with a confidence in his own abilities that he confirmed each and every Juve player also shared this evening.
Speaking after the final whistle, the 34-year-old began: “We knew that it was going to be a long battle and that we needed to score. Despite those first few minutes when we were under pressure, we had prepared well and we believed we could do it all the way.
“We were aware that Fiorentina would put on a good show, but since we dropped out of the Champions League our objective has always been to well in the Europa League and Serie A. We’re pleased with how it’s going.”
Pirlo went on to explain his own personal satisfaction at contributing to such important victories over Genoa and now Fiorentina over the past few days.
“It was important to win both games and I’m happy to have unlocked them with my goals.”
The midfielder concluded by describing how he is taking each step at a time and won’t consider Juve’s next opponent in the competition until after the draw is made tomorrow.
“I don’t have any preferences on who we come up against. For now we’ll enjoy this victory and we’ll turn our attentions to the next game when the time comes.”
