Fabio Grosso’s youngsters battle back from a goal behind against Novara to earn the solitary point required to qualify them for this year’s end of season playoffs

The Primavera came from behind against Novara to seal the point they required to guarantee direct qualification for this year’s Final Eight, drawing 1-1 at Chisola this afternoon.

Despite a solid start to proceedings, it was the visitors who set nerves jangling by taking the lead through Gabrielius Judickas on 20 minutes.

But the Bianconeri reacted strongly and got back on level terms shortly before the break when Anastasios Donis’ shot took a wicked deflection off Lorenzo Dickmann and flashed past Ezequiel Martinez.

Juventus began the second half well and looked odds-on to edge their noses in front, only for the straight red card issued to Gianmarco Vannucchi to leave them with a numerical disadvantage for the remaining 24 minutes.

Despite this, Fabio Grosso’s side continued to create but allowed a golden opportunity to go begging when Jose Cevallos had his spot kick saved by Martinez.

A late Novara surge saw the crossbar rattled in a tense final few minutes, but the Primavera held firm to secure a welcome share of the spoils.

Speaking after the game, Grosso said: “It was a complicated game in which we saw just about everything happen. We managed to battle back from our initial deficit through our strength of character and quality of play. I have always believed in these lads.”
