As Fabio Grosso’s lads await their turn on the pitch this evening against Chievo, the semi-finals spots on the left side of the table have already been filled in. Moreno Longo’s Torino side beat Atalanta to go through, along with Simone Inzaghi’s Lazio.
The boys from Bergamo, who twice took the lead, eventually fell behind as the Granata triumphed 3-2. Atalanta led in the first half thanks to goals from Cavagna and Varano either side of Coccolo's temporary leveller. Then in the second half Ientile made it all square before Torino were finally able to celebrate as Gyasi grabbed the winner: 3-2.
In the other quarter-final on the left side of the table, the Biancocelesti won their derby against Roma by the same score, and also by way of a comeback. Roma struck first through Adamo, then doubled their lead with Taviani’s header. Just before half-time, however, Lazio came to life as the Croat Elez scored (a penalty) and Minala drew things level. In the end it was Murgia’s lob that sealed the win.
Fiorentina will take to the pitch against Palermo at 17:00 this afternoon in Sant’Arcangelo. The winning side will then face the winner of Juventus v Chievo, scheduled for 21:15 at the Stadio Neri in Rimini. The Gialloblù won their group, snatching top spot from Atalanta at the end of the regular season, while the Bianconeri made it to the finals by securing second place in their group.
