On 11 January 2004, Antonio Conte scored the last of his 44 goals in a Bianconeri shirt against Sampdoria in Genoa, the exact occasion that his Juve team face tomorrow

Sampdoria are the only team that Antonio Conte’s Juventus side didn’t beat last season, but it was his final Bianconeri strike of a personal haul of 44 that consigned them to defeat back in January 2004.

In the away fixture in Genoa – the very same that the team which he currently manages will compete in on Saturday evening – his strike on 60 minutes gave Marcello Lippi’s men an important three points.

It was the last one in a glittering career as club captain and hero amongst the fans, a period of 13 years spent at Juve in which he was the winner of five Scudetto titles and the Champions League in 1996.

Also important in relation to Saturday’s fixture is the fact that Angelo Palombo and Gigi Buffon, the current captains of Sampdoria and Juventus, were also on the field.
