The Bianconeri’s Europa League opponents go into half-time level with their close rivals in the league standings, but a Mehmet Akyuz hat-trick then consigns them to a 4-2 loss

Juventus’ Europa League Round of 32 opposition Trabzonspor suffered a knock to their hopes of securing European football next season with a 4-2 home defeat last night against Akhisar Belediyespor.

It was all square at half-time, but the hosts were then sunk by a stunning second-half Mehmet Akyuz hat-trick at the Hüseyin Avni Aker Stadium. The shining light for Mustafa Akcay‘s side, meanwhile, was midfielder Olcan Adin, scorer of both goals.

With Trabzonspor just one point ahead of the visitors going into the game, a win could have helped them pull away in the Super Lig.

Instead, the crunch-match defeat has seen Akhisar Belediyespor leapfrog the hosts to go fifth, leaving Trabzonspor ninth.

The Turks will look to bounce back when they travel to face Kardemir Karabukspor on Saturday 15 February.
