Juventus’ Champions League Group B rivals FC Copenhagen and Real Madrid both matched the Bianconeri’s win against Chievo Verona last night with victories of their own in their domestic fixtures.
Stale Solbakken’s side continued to get back on track after a difficult start to the season with an emphatic 4-2 cup win against Hvidovre in the semi-final. Goals from Cesar Santin and Youssef Toutouh in the first half were topped off by Igor Vetokele and Marvin Pourie in the second, sealing a confidence-boosting win.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, were also on the field last night in a La Liga fixture against newly-promoted Elche. The pressure was on Carlo Ancelotti’s men to keep up with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, who continue to win and find themselves at the top of the table, and they delivered in dramatic fashion.
Away at the Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero, Real Madrid took the lead through Cristiano Ronaldo before Elche drew level in the 90th minute thanks to a wonderful team-move capped off by Richmond Boakye, who is on loan from Juventus.
But the game took another sensational turn when Ronaldo netted again, this time from the penalty spot, in the six minute of injury time to seal the win.
Galatasaray were not in action, but there is a piece of news to report: manager Fatih Terim has parted ways with the club, so there will be a different boss in the dugout when they take on Juventus.
