Last night’s charity fundraiser captures the imagination of a worldwide audience, recording strong viewing and social media engagement figures

Stars from legendary Juventus and Real Madrid teams of years gone by lit up Juventus Stadium in last night’s UNESCO Cup, capturing the imagination of a worldwide audience who remained glued to their screens throughout.

With the promise of Pavel Nedved, Zinedine Zidane, Edgar Davids, Emilio Butrageno, Paolo Montero, Fernando Hierro, Mauro German Camoranesi and Clarence Seedorf returning to exhibit their silky skills at an arena worthy of their undisputed class, there was bound to be a significant level of excitement surrounding the encounter – and so it proved.

The charity fundraiser yielded a 8.34% TV audience share in Italy, corresponding to an average viewing figure of 1,600,000. This increased to a peak of 1,900,000 during the second half.

The broadcasting success went hand in hand with the event’s popularity on social networks, with the #UNESCOCup hashtag appearing within the top four of Italy’s most trending topics on Twitter.

These impressive figures helped increase awareness of the game's primary goal: the generation of funds to support child soldiers affected by conflicts in Mali and the Central African Republic, one of two UNESCO projects Juventus is collaborating with following last week's partnership agreement.
