Remi Garde’s men bounce back at the first time of asking in Sunday’s away clash with Valenciennes

Lyon responded to Remi Garde’s call for an instant reaction to Thursday’s Europa League defeat by overcoming 10-man Valenciennes 2-1 on Sunday evening.

Bafetimbi Gomis got the visitors off to a positive start at the Stade du Hainaut when he netted his 100th Ligue 1 career goal on the half-hour mark, while Jordan Ferri replied to Majeed Waris’ momentary equaliser with what proved to be the match winning goal on 69 minutes.

The win, Lyon's first in four games, against the relegation strugglers keeps them four points shy of Saint-Etienne, who occupy the last Europa League qualification spot, and serves as the ideal tonic ahead of this Thursday's return leg at Juventus Stadium.
