Allegri: “A positive evening”

Massimiliano Allegri expressed his satisfaction with the professional and focused attitude displayed by Juventus during this evening’s 3-0 win over Cesena in Turin.

The manager named a starting line-up featuring four changes from Saturday evening’s win over Milan and saw his choices come up trumps as the returning Arturo Vidal netted a double and Sebastian Giovinco, making his first start of the season, left the ground with the man-of-the-match champagne.

And, after congratulating the team in the dressing room, his first words of praise when meeting the media were reserved for several individuals who made a key contribution to the Bianconeri’s fourth success of the current campaign.

Speaking after the game, Allegri began: “It was a positive evening because we won, but even with an element of rotation we showed ourselves to be a solid team.

“Giovinco played well and featured for the entire 90 minutes, Vidal came in after a period on the sidelines and was immediately decisive, Ogbonna and Pereyra are continuing to do well and Padoin put in a fine ball for Lichtsteiner. It’s important to have 20 players at the same level.”

Tonight yielded another clean sheet for Juventus who have now gone seven Serie A games without conceding between the end of last season and the start of the current campaign.

Allegri believes a correct psychological approach was one of the key factors behind tonight’s success in particular but warned there is still work to be done on the training ground.

“We didn’t allow them any decent opportunities and this is an excellent sign, especially because we need to be on our mettle in games like these and not let the tension drop after the Champions League. I’ve inherited a well organised group of lads, but there can and must be room for further improvement.”
