Massimiliano Allegri revealed his disappointment at several errors made by his side during this evening’s goalless draw with Fiorentina but conceded a point against an in-form side at a difficult venue was a fair result.

Speaking to the media after the final whistle in Florence, the 47-year-old began: “We made a few too many mistakes from a technical standpoint. It was a very even affair and in these types of games you need to take one of the few chances that come your way.”

The Tuscan tactician opted to revert back to a defensive three for the trip to the Artemio Franchi, and sought to explain the thinking behind his reshuffle when quizzed by reporters after the game.

“With Lichtsteiner missing, if we had played four at the back I would have been forced to go for Padoin as the right full-back. I think he’s more comfortable on the other side.

“I wanted greater protection for the pace of Cuadrado and then change things up after the break, but Chiellini and Ogbonna were both booked and we decided to stay as we were.”

One bright spot from the evening was the fearless display of Kingsley Coman, making his second Serie A start of the campaign, and Allegri singled him and Fernando Llorente out for their contributions in leading the line.

“Coman played well and is excellent in one-on-one situations. Llorente fought a great deal up there, allowing us to gain territory and his task wasn’t easy. I perhaps could have put Morata on for Pereyra, but with two midfielders booked it wouldn’t have been right to take risks.”

With their Serie A supremacy protected for another weekend, Juventus will now look ahead to Tuesday’s crunch final Champions League Group A game against Atletico Madrid.

Concluding with a thought on his team’s bid for the last 16, Allegri added: “We need to try and win 2-0 in order to top the group. It won’t be straightforward but we feel confident.”
