The boss says he is pleased with the way his men set about their task in this evening’s 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund.

Massimiliano Allegri says he is pleased with the way Juventus set about their task in tonight’s “important test” against Champions League stalwarts Borussia Dortmund.

His men came in for praise for the way they nullified the threat of a side blessed with plenty of pace and attacking menace, with the failure to add to their 2-1 lead providing Allegri’s only qualm from an otherwise positive night’s work.

A selection of his post-match thoughts can be found below:

“It was an important test for us after an excellent group stage. A last 16 tie is never easy, the right mindset is required. We came away with a positive result because the team played well.

“We knew how to be defend in an orderly fashion, in spite of the odd misplaced pass. We’re happy with the win and the display put in by the lads.

“We could have won by a greater margin. We had several chances and performed well in the second half, playing a lot further up the pitch. Borussia are a team who operate with pace and we didn’t give them an inch.

“It was a very tactical encounter. We played the type of game we needed to in a Champions League last 16 tie, where all the meetings are evenly poised.

“Now we’ll think about our head-to-head game with Roma. Then in due course we’ll turn our attentions to the second leg in Dortmund.”
