Leonardo Bonucci was keen to temper the disappointment of losing to Atletico by highlighting some of the positives that Juventus can take away from the Madrid cauldron.

He said: "It was an evenly balanced encounter. We played well, kept possession and managed to play our game here against the European runners-up and Spanish champions. That's no mean feat. They defended as they always do: we know they're an aggressive side who wait for you in their own half.

"In the second period, apart from those five minutes at the start when they really got at us, we were in control of the game. We were unlucky to concede given that they only had two shots. The goal put the wind in their sails again. Before then they were starting to wane and we were growing in stature."

On the perfect equilibrium now reigning in Group A: "Malmo winning just shows you that every match is different. It's a balanced group and we knew it would be. That's why we go home with such a strong sense of regret at not having picked up a point. It would have put us top."

Back home there's a Serie A showdown to prepare for now: "We must move on and think about Roma. We have to focus on domestic matters again and after tonight we have even more reason to prove that we're still the team to beat."
