The Bianconeri captain will act as a spokesperson for the Universal Exposition’s core messages

Gigi Buffon is to lend his talents to the Expo Milano 2015. The Juventus and Italy captain has been made an ambassador for the Universal Exposition, where over 140 countries and international organisations will show off their best technological solutions to a vital issue: how to guarantee healthy, safe, sufficient food for all people whilst respecting the planet and its delicate balance of ecosystems.

Buffon will now help to spread the message of the Expo, which opens on 1 May 2015. He said: “The theme of the Expo is very interesting, because food as a concept is seen from so many different angles. For inhabitants of developed countries, food is increasingly linked to fashion and trends, whereas for people living in the third world, food is a symbol of human survival.

“As a sportsman, I’m sure that the ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’ theme will help us to achieve the important goal of proving that a healthy, informed approach to food can improve the quality of life of many people in the world. The saying ‘a sound mind in a sound body’ has never been so pertinent as it is now,” declared Buffon.

Government commissioner for the Expo 2015 Giuseppe Sala declared: “We’re delighted that a vastly experienced superstar like Gianluigi Buffon has become an ambassador. His class and style will be a big plus for the Universal Exposition. We’re convinced that these qualities will allow Buffon to help us tackle the challenges ahead, by engaging directly with the young people and sports lovers who hold him in such high regard.”
