Gigi Buffon believes the amount of opportunities the Bianconeri created over the course of their Champions League Group A double header with Olympiacos means tonight’s victory was fully deserved.
The captain, speaking after the 3-2 triumph at Juventus Stadium, said he hoped for a “sporting miracle” after the Greek champions snatched the lead midway through the second-half and paid tribute to the defenders who protected him throughout a thrilling 90 minutes.
Addressing reporters in the mixed zone, Buffon said: “Our qualification hopes were in the balance tonight and a defeat would have been harsh on us. We created several goalscoring opportunities in both games.
“After they scored their second I hoped we could pull off a sporting miracle because it was something we deserved. We did well to stay in the game after they equalised and were rewarded for sticking to our task following the break.
“My team-mates at the back put in a good performance, affording them very few chances, and defended with discipline.”
