It was "a match that Juve can't lose". Sadly though, come the final whistle, it was Olympiacos who were celebrating as they moved up to six points in Group A on level pegging with Atletico, who also won this evening. That was how Gigi Buffon described tonight's Champions League meeting in Piraeus right after the final whistle.

The captain observed: "We were superb in the second half, carving out a host of chances but we just couldn't find an equaliser. We can rue playing an average first half: if we'd played the entire game as we did after the restart, it would have been a different result."

The Juve No.1 then explained that the different approach adopted in the second period was the result of some half-time tinkering in the dressing room by Massimiliano Allegri: "The gaffer switched a few things around during the break, changing the position of two or three players."

Finally, Buffon commented bitterly that, "Losing any game is going to complicate matters, whatever your target is. This is certainly a game that Juve can't lose."
