Gianluigi Buffon spoke of “three points worth their weight in gold” when analysing this evening’s 3-1 triumph over Napoli at the San Paolo.
The win in tough circumstances served as the perfect response to recent critics and shot the Bianconeri three points clear of Roma at the top of the table following the Giallorossi’s earlier draw against Lazio in the Rome derby.
A fundamental factor behind the triumph in the captain’s eyes was the performance of the group as a whole, with Buffon attributing the success to the contribution of each and every person in the Juventus travelling party.
Speaking to the media in Naples, the goalkeeper said: “There’s a lot more satisfaction involved when you win by digging deep than by doing so when everything’s plain sailing. It’s something that brings the group together. In a crucial game of our season we managed to gain these three points that are worth their weight in gold.
“If I had to choose a man of the match I’d definitely go for the group as a whole. And when I say group I mean all 40 people who came down to Naples from Turin. My run towards Vidal wasn’t just for him but for everyone. This game was one that was only going to be won all together.”
