Goalscorer Giorgio Chiellini maintains Italy’s perfect qualification start. Arturo Vidal and Kingsley Coman feature in wins for Chile and France Under-21s respectively. Alvaro Morata’s Spanish Under 21s play out a goalless draw with Serbia

Giorgio Chiellini netted all three goals as Italy continued their perfect start to the Euro 2016 qualification campaign with last night’s 2-1 win over Azerbaijan in Palermo.

It was the defender who broke the deadlock when he connected with Andrea Pirlo’s cross to put the Azzurri a goal to the good a minute before half-time.

However, with the clock ticking down towards the game’s closing stages, Chiellini levelled matters when he headed the ball past Gigi Buffon on 76 minutes following an Azerbaijan corner.

He atoned for his own goal five minutes later, meeting Sebastian Giovinco’s cross to secure Italy’s second win in as many qualification games under Antonio Conte.

Chiellini was joined in the starting line-up by Buffon, Leonardo Bonucci, Claudio Marchisio and Andrea Pirlo, while Giovinco came off the bench with 13 minutes remaining.

Elsewhere, Arturo Vidal featured for the full 90 minutes as Chile ran out 3-0 winners in a friendly against Peru. Alvaro Morata also started for the Spanish Under-21 side’s goalless draw with Serbia.

Over in France, Kingsley Coman came off the bench just past the hour mark as the French Under-21s overcame their Swedish counterparts 2-0.
