No love lost on Valentine’s weekend as the Old Lady dispel the Gialloblu 3-1 thanks to goals from Kwadwo Asamoah, Claudio Marchisio and Fernando Llorente to make it 12 wins out of 12 at Juventus Stadium

Ahead of kick off on 16 February, Antonio Conte was celebrating a centenary of matches as manager and his side were hoping to keep up their remarkable 100 per cent winning record at home.

Juventus were on the front foot from the get-go, Fernando Llorente trapping Angelo Ogbonna’s pass before turning away from his marker and slicing his effort high and wide.

Conte’s men maintained their dominance as Andrea Pirlo’s rasping drive from the edge of the box flew just over the crossbar after Eugenio Corini’s side failed to clear their lines.

The Bianconeri took the lead soon after thanks to Kwadwo Asamoah’s opener as the Ghanaian curled the ball expertly out of reach of Michael Agazzi’s despairing dive on 17 minutes.

Claudio Marchisio nipped in to double Juventus’ lead ahead of the half-hour mark, pouncing on a loose ball in the six-yard box to slot home after Pirlo had seen his initial free kick parried by Agazzi.

The start of the second half saw the Gialloblu handed a lifeline as Martin Caceres’ freak own goal gave the visitors hope of forcing a comeback.

With confidence flowing, Chievo found themselves in the ascendancy and only a spectactular Leonardo Bonucci block prevented Sergio Pellissier bringing the Gialloblu level.

Bonucci’s heroics sparked Juventus back into life and the team soon reverted to the strategy that served them well in the first half. The Verona-based outfit were hounded by the frontline of Sebastian Giovinco and Llorente and the Bianconeri’s persistence soon paid off.

It was to be the Lion King himself to ensure the Old Lady came away from the game with all three points, thumping home a header from Pirlo’s corner to take his tally into double figures for the season.

Conte’s men went for the jugular as Ogbonna and Giovinco both went close to further extending the lead before the referee blew the full-time whistle.

Win number 12 for the Bianconeri at Juventus Stadium meant they had an 11-point cushion over closest rivals Roma as the Serie A season crept into its pivotal stage.

Speaking after the game, match-winner Fernando Llorente praised the team’s quick ability to raise their heads after conceding.
