Fernando Llorente has called on the Bianconeri to carry their rich vein of form into this weekend’s inter-city derby against Torino, emphasising the importance of staving off nearest challengers Roma by claiming the right result on Sunday evening at Juventus Stadium.

Speaking to Laura Barriales on Jtv’s ‘Filo Diretto’, the 29-year-old began: “We’re in good run of form and have worked well. The derby’s a special game and it really means a lot to people here. It’s important we win to maintain our grip on top spot.”

Juventus head into the encounter riding on the crest of a wave following Wednesday’s fundamental Champions League win over Malmo, with Llorente under no illusions regarding the importance of his opening goal in Sweden.

“It wasn’t an easy game against Malmo, they too were also fighting for qualification. We had plenty of chances and could have scored a lot more than we did. I knew how important that goal was, I broke the deadlock in a match we knew we needed to win.”

With Massimiliano Allegri’s decision to deploy a defensive quartet yielding four wins and 15 goals from the last four games, Llorente voiced his content at the way things are panning out for the new boss.

He concluded: “We’re all really comfortable with the new system. I enjoyed working under Conte and the same goes for Allegri who is doing a great job. He’s an intelligent man and knows how to get the best out of us.”
