Goalscorer Claudio Marchisio believes the Bianconeri’s focused approach was key to seeing off a stubborn Udinese outfit in this evening’s 2-0 success at Juventus Stadium.

The Zebrette maintained the defensive approach Andrea Stramaccioni alluded to in his pre-match press conference and made it tough for the hosts to kill the game off.

But the midfielder’s fifth Serie A goal of the calendar year on 75 minutes did just that, and he spoke of the significance of claiming all three points when meeting the media afterwards.

In the Juventus Stadium mixed zone, the 28-year-old said: “It’s important to get off to a good start in this league. It’s never easy, especially after three consecutive Scudetto titles. Teams try to give us problems, just as Udinese did, who could have been threatening on the counter. But we remained focused right the way through.

“It’s always a wonderful feeling to score, especially in front of our fans at Juventus Stadium. As the years go by, I’m racking up even more appearances and I hope that figure and the amount of trophies we win continue to increase.”

Usually seen darting into the box from Andrea Pirlo’s left-hand side, the academy graduate continues to provide effective cover in a more defensive position.

And despite admitting a preference for his previous role, he managed to find a way of bringing the goalscoring Marchisio to the fore in the closing stages of tonight’s encounter.

“I’ve always got on better as an inside midfielder, you’ve got a greater chance of breaking through and scoring. Having said that, when we’ve managed to shut out the opposition in certain games, you can find space to roam forward even when playing in front of the defence.”
