Pavel Nedved admits Borussia Dortumund represent an interesting challenge for the Bianconeri in this season’s Champions League last 16 - but believes Massimiliano Allegri’s men should be confident of standing toe to toe with the finalists of 2013.

The club director, in Nyon for this lunchtime’s draw, claims there is little to choose between the two teams and says the test will serve as a useful yardstick by which to measure the Bianconeri’s overall progress on the European stage.

Speaking to reporters just minutes after the outcome, Nedved began: “It will be an evenly matched tie. You can’t say it’s the best possible draw, but it certainly could have got a lot worse given that Bayern and Real were still in the hat. There are teams who are almost impossible to get past, but we think we’ll be able to give this one a good go.

“We need to remain alert because Borussia are a very strong side. I’m a huge fan of Klopp and curious to see how we measure up in Europe. This game will be able to tell us a great deal.”

As well as manager Jurgen Klopp, Nedved also revealed his admiration for Borussia Dortmund’s group of players, reserving particular praise for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marco Reus.

He concluded: “They have young and very talented players and always manage to push to the max. I’ve always been a big admirer of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marco Reus, back from injury, will provide an added boost in quality and make them an even stronger side.”
