Pogba: “This team can go far”

Paul Pogba believes Juventus have it in them to enjoy a lengthy run in the Champions League this season.

Speaking to Sky following this evening’s goalless draw at Juventus Stadium, the 21-year-old talked up his side’s potential as they booked their spot in the competition’s knockout phase.

He began: “Atletico are a strong side but Juventus played with a lot of personality against a great team who reached the final last season.”

The French international went close to breaking the deadlock this evening, with a speculative effort from distance proving too hot to handle for Miguel Angel Moya midway through the second half.

But apart from that, Juventus did not have that many clear-cut opportunities during a cagey encounter and Pogba was quick to praise
tonight’s opponents for the way they set out in Turin.

“Atletico were very narrow today. There wasn’t much space out there. We tried to get in behind them at times but they’re very strong defensively. We’re through to the next phase and that’s the most important thing.”

The Bianconeri do not have to wait long to discover their Champions League fate with the draw for the last 16 scheduled to take place next Monday.

Pogba, however, wasn’t drawn on picking out a possible adversary for Juventus to face in the next round and concluded proceedings saying: “The draw? No preference. We’ll play to progress and come out on top.

“We know that we can go far with this team but we need to give even more because the games aren’t going to be easy.”
