Juventus are no strangers to the Dino Manuzzi.
Even though the Stadio Delle Alpi was home for the Old Lady back then, they chose to use Cesena’s stadium based in Emilia-Romagna as their ground for a triumphant Intertoto Cup run in 1999.
European competitions aside, 19 games have been played between the Bianconeri and the Cavallucci Marini spread over three different competitions: Serie A, Serie B and the Coppa Italia. Out of those meetings, nine have been won by the away side, as well as 11 draws and a solitary 2-1 defeat inflicted by tonight’s opponents on 21 March 1976.
Regardless of that defeat, Juventus have enjoyed playing at the Dino Manuzzi. Whilst taking part in the 1999 Intertoto Cup, the Bianconeri’s decision to choose Cesena’s ground as their site for the cup was vindicated.
After drawing with Romanian side Ceahlaul, the Turin-based outfit registered two victories in the subsequent games. They overcame Rostov in emphatic fashion with a 5-1 win before Filippo Inzaghi bagged a brace in a 2-0 first-leg final win over French side Rennes. The Intertoto Cup win led the Old Lady to qualify for that season’s UEFA Cup.
Juventus have played at the Dino Manuzzi in domestic games as well as on the European stage. Their record is good, with two wins and a draw from three Coppa Italia ties as well as five victories, six draws and a solitary defeat in 12 Serie A matches. The two teams also drew 2-2 on 6 May 2007 when both sides plyed their trades in Serie B.
Ex-Bianconeri Rui Barros, Alessandro Matri and Sergio Brio have all starred at Cesena’s home ground. In 1989 and 2011 respectively, Barros and Matri both notched a brace against tonight’s counterparts from Emilia Romagna whilst Brio, although having spent his whole career in defence, managed to score at the Dino Manuzzi in two consecutive seasons.
