Fabio Grosso’s Primavera were made to work hard for all three points as they overcame bottom side Varese in a thriller, triumphing 4-3 in Ivrea earlier this afternoon thanks to Mattia Vitale’s dramatic injury-time winner.

Anything but a victory would have seen the fourth-place Bianconeri fall further behind table-topping Fiorentina in the race for the title, and the young guns raced into a two-goal lead after only 14 minutes through Luca Clemenza and Younes Bnou-Marzouk.

But the visitors rallied and got themselves back level with a quick-fire double of their own during first-half injury time: Danilo Ruzzittu's strike and a Giulio Parodi own goal meaning it was 2-2 at the break.

Juventus went straight back in front when Bnou-Marzouk notched to make it 3-2 six minutes after the restart but Varese once again showed their fighting spirit as Giorgio Siani equalised midway through the second half.

With the two teams deadlocked going into stoppage time and no clear victor in sight, up stepped Vitale to earn the Bianconeri's first three points of 2015 with a matchwinning goal.

Next up for Grosso’s troops is an away trip to Spezia on Saturday 24 January, kick-off 14.30 CET.
